Profile / description of scientific interests

M.Sc. Eng. Magdalena Jankowska graduated with an engineering degree in Chemical Technology with a specialization in Polymer Technology at Krakow University of Technology, Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology in 2020. The engineering thesis topic was: “Synthesis of 1,2,3,4,5-pentafuoro-6-[(E)-styryl]benzene derivatives, investigation of spectroscopic properties and their application to the role of photoinitiators for cationic, radical and hybrid polymerization initiated by UV/Vis light”. She continued her master’s studies in Chemical Technology and graduated with honors in 2021. The subject of the master’s thesis research was: “Preparation of photocurable polymer composites utilizing photoinitiating systems in the visible light range”. She carried out the research work for her engineering thesis and master’s thesis under the supervision of Professor Joanna Ortyl. In addition, in 2021 she also completed postgraduate studies in Quality management according to ISO 9000 standards at the Cracow University of Technology’s Center for Quality Systems Training and Organization. In October 2021, she started her doctoral studies at the Doctoral School of the Cracow University of Technology in the discipline of Chemical Engineering. The dissertation topic focuses on the investigation of new high-performance photoinitiating systems dedicated to the preparation of photocurable polymer nanocomposites using light-initiated 3D printing technology. Since October 2024, he has been an employee of the Wind Engineering Laboratory at the Cracow University of Technology. In December 2024, she received funding in the PRELUDIUM 23 project funded by the National Science Center for a project entitled: “Synthesis of novel high-performance photoinitiating systems for the preparation of DLP-printed 3D polymer aerogel structures”. She gained scientific experience through her work in the Scientific Association of Applied Photochemistry headed by Prof. Ortyl, as well as through numerous national and international research internships. In 2019, she participated in a research internship at the Synthesis Laboratory of the Interfacial Phenomena Physicochemistry Group at the Department of Chemistry at Jagiellonian University, where she had the opportunity to synthesize new photosensitizers. In 2022, she completed an internship with Dr. Lepcio’s group at the Central European Institute of Technology in Brno, where she gained experience in obtaining polymer nanocomposites using DLP technology and investigating their properties. In addition, in 2023, she completed a five-month research internship at the Faculty of Chemistry of Rzeszow University of Technology in Prof. Pawel Chmielarz’s research group, where she had the opportunity to conduct research on the application of new photocatalysts for photo-ATRP/metal-free ATRP processes. Additionally, she also completed an internship at the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences and gained experience in laboratory work through an internship at New Era Materials. Her research interests mainly focus on light-initiated 3D printing and the implementation of the cationic photopolymerization process in 3D printing. She conducts interdisciplinary research in polymer chemistry, photochemistry and materials engineering.
