Dr Eng. Monika Topa-Skwarczyńska – Finalist of the 25th POLITYKA Science Awards

On October 19th, 2025, Dr Eng. Monika Topa-Skwarczyńska attended the ceremonial gala of the POLITYKA Science Awards, where she received the final award in the Technical Sciences category as part of the 25th edition of this prestigious distinction.

The award recognized her innovative research on new dental composites and their manufacturing technologies, including photocurable 3D printing. This year’s edition attracted nearly 500 submissions, from which the professorial and civic jury selected 15 finalists.

The gala gathered outstanding representatives of the Polish scientific community, creating a space for inspiration, dialogue, and exchange of experiences.

Academic Profile

Dr Eng. Monika Topa-Skwarczyńska graduated with honors from the Cracow University of Technology with a degree in Biotechnology (2017). She then obtained two master’s degrees: in Chemical Technology (specialization: polymer technology) and in Biotechnology (specialization: industrial and environmental biotechnology).

In 2023, she defended her doctoral dissertation with distinction, focusing on new photoinitiating systems for dental composites, under the supervision of Prof. Joanna Ortyl. Since December 2023, she has been a research assistant at the Department of Biotechnology and Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Cracow University of Technology.

Her achievements include:

  • 75 scientific publications, including 27 in journals listed in the JCR,
  • 5 granted patents,
  • 6 research projects managed and participation in 7 additional projects as a contributor,
  • numerous national and international awards, including the START FNP scholarship (2023) and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education award for outstanding young scientists (2021).
